Knowing that most fireworks displays are being canceled across the state, residents may be taking it upon themselves to light up the Fourth of July skies.

In Connecticut, sparklers and fountains are not considered "fireworks" as they remain largely reserved to the ground. Any explosive devices that fly up into the air, however, are considered "fireworks" and are illegal to be set off in Connecticut unless authorized by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
