Congrats to Amelia who hails from Arizona and has done some impressive things on the field, like win the Colorado Sparkler with her team, and off the field, like swim with sharks!

Here’s more on this rising star…

Player Name: AMELIA STREUBER Team Name: AZ Steel Figueroa High School: Canyon Del Oro, Oro Valley, AZ Graduation Year: 2025 Position(s): P/OF/3B Coaches Name: Rene Figueroa (club), Kelly Fowler (high school) Parents: Casey & Raylene Streuber

What are your team’s top accomplishments?

What are your top individual accomplishments?

What are your strengths in softball? I think my biggest asset is that I’m almost always calm in the pitching circle.  You’ll occasionally see me crack a smile if I get a batter to chase a change-up or rise ball way out of the zone.  You have to be a pitcher to really know, but there isn’t a better feeling than getting a batter to look silly at the plate!

What is your favorite softball memory? I don’t know that I can identify a single favorite memory.  I’ve had so much fun with my team for the last five years.  Most of us have been together since we were 10 or 11, which is a little unusual in club softball.  Of course, winning the Colorado Sparkler was fun.  We played out of our minds during that tournament and won several games with walk-offs.

Playing at ASU Stadium in the championship game of a PGF tournament last fall was a highlight too.  I pitched three full games the day before to fight our way out of the loser’s bracket and was running out of gas in the last inning.  It was pretty late at night, and we had been at the park since the first game of the day.  I was starting to lose command of my pitches and the game was getting tight, but we had played so hard and all of us really wanted that experience of playing at ASU.

My coach called time and asked me to find an extra gear to finish off the game.  I wasn’t sure it was possible, but something clicked and my speeds started to pick back up.  I finished the game with a strikeout and felt like collapsing.

The next day it was all worth it when we had our lineup announced and got to stand together at ASU Stadium for the national anthem.  We ended up losing the championship game, but it was a great game and such a cool experience.

Do you have any softball superstitions? My team doesn’t really have any superstitions, but we do like to chant old little league cheers to embarrass our coaches and throw our opponents off.  We always get some interesting looks from the fielders that are closest to the dugout!

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen happen on a softball field? My assistant coach’s son running across the field in the middle of a game with nachos.

If you could meet anyone in the softball world, who would it be? The cool thing about living in Tucson is that UA Softball (Univ. of Arizona) is right down the street.  You really can’t live in a better place if you love softball.  I’ve met so many amazing players/coaches at UA games or camps.  It’s hard to pick one person given how lucky we are in Tucson, but watching my first UA game from the stands and seeing Danielle O’Toole pitch live sticks out to me.

I think she is the person I’d most like to meet from the softball world because she seems so authentic.  She also hasn’t had an “easy” road in softball, so I’d like to know how she was able to stick with it and make it into the Olympics.  That first live game for me was when I realized I really wanted to see if I could be good enough to play in college, so I’d love to meet her and tell her that.

What is one thing you have learned from your coach that will always stay with you? Don’t throw 0-2 cookies (kidding… sort of…).  Really though, I can’t express how much I’ve learned about the game from all of my coaches but especially Coach Rene.  We have a pretty special bond and he trusts me with the ball in the circle in the toughest situations.

I think I’ve learned more from how he runs practice than anything that he has said directly to me.  He is meticulous about everything, from how he puts equipment away, to how he preps the field before our practice, to the situations he prepares us for in a game.  I think if I had to sum it all up, I’ve learned that if you focus on the little details you can control, the rest will fall into place over time.

What is something unique about you? I conquered my fear of swimming with sharks this summer.  It was all fun and games until a family friend in our group actually had a shark bite her hand.  Maybe it was a healthy fear to have after all.

Who is your hero and why? Both my parents are my heroes.  They have helped shape me into the athlete I’ve become by always building me up and never tearing me down.  My dad keeps me company during my workouts and points out things I need to work on in a kind way and our drives home from softball games are always pleasant no matter what the outcome.  I’ve inherited his relaxed nature which has really helped me in softball.  He also stays up late many nights helping me with my homework!

As for my mom, she always advocates for me and checks in regularly to make sure I never get overwhelmed, and she lets me know that it is okay to take a break.  My parents put family and school first and I respect how they have raised my brothers and me.

What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy outside of softball? I love art, reading, and cooking (just don’t ask me to bake).  I also enjoy traveling with my family— I have been to many national parks, and our last vacation to the Maldives is one I’ll never forget.

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why? I’d like to come up with someone unique, but I think I would actually enjoy most a BBQ while camping with my family.  Between my brother’s activities and mine, my favorite dinner moments are when we can all be together hanging out without any place to be.  My brothers are pretty entertaining!
