GREENWICH — Greenwich will be saying goodbye to summer with a bang Saturday when the Independence Day’s rescheduled fireworks show is set to take place at two locations in Old Greenwich.

One of the Saturday shows will be at 7:55 p.m. in Binney Park; one will be at 8:20 p.m. at Greenwich Point. This is a makeup after the threat of bad weather canceled the town’s annual Fourth of July fireworks shows.

First Selectman Fred Camillo announced the rescheduled date in late July, saying it would be a “last blast to summer” during the long Labor Day holiday weekend.

“I think it’s always very important to have community events like we’ve always had and we are looking for newer and different ones to bring people together,” Camillo said at the time. “They contribute to what makes Greenwich so special.”

In the event of rain Saturday there will be one show on Sunday at Greenwich Point at 8 p.m.

The town will use Atlas Fireworks of New Hampshire, as it had planned for July 4. Parks and Recreation Director Joseph Siciliano said in July that the company still had Greenwich’s full order of fireworks on hand and it was simply a matter of finding a good date for the rescheduled show.

There will be musical entertainment for both Greenwich Point and Binney Park prior to the fireworks being launched.

“We decided if we couldn’t do it near the Fourth, we could have a beach celebration at the end of the summer,” Siciliano said in July. “Labor Day kind of marks the end of the official beach season so we thought we’d use it for that.”

The traditional July fireworks rules will be in effect for Saturday’s show: People will need their seasonal park passes or single-entry guest passes to be able to access Greenwich Point; people should be wary of traffic delays both entering and exiting the parks.

No tailgating is allowed at either location and cooking will only be permitted in designated areas of Greenwich Point. There will be no swimming after sunset at Greenwich Point; people are not allowed to bring dogs there.

At both sites no one will be allowed to bring open flame candles, sparklers, Chinese fire lanterns, bomb bags, sky lanterns, snappers or any other type of fireworks.

People are not allowed to climb the trees at Binney Park.

Anyone planning on attending should arrive early and bring a working flashlight with them. And because Greenwich Point closes when the maximum number of cars for the available parking spaces has been reached and sunset will be earlier in September than it would have been in July, “early arrival is a must.”

Extra accessible parking spaces will be available at Greenwich Point near the south concession stand.
