A Sarpy County judge called an 18-year-old facing felony assault charges for a Fourth of July attack an "extreme danger to the public."

That judge also increased the bond for Maddix Foss to $1 million on Tuesday.

Foss, Jeremy Brown, Brittany King and two kids allegedly assaulted a family near 135th and Redwood streets. The incident was captured on Ring doorbell video cameras.

Police said they shot fireworks at the family before a fight broke out.

In court Tuesday, a police detective testified that officers found the suspect's vehicle with spent roman candles in the back seat.

He also said Foss admitted to the crime in a jailhouse phone call.

Prosecutors previously said they believe King held a roman candle firework to one of the victim's heads.

"The victim indicated it was very near to his eye and the firework exploded near his face, he suffered some burns to his head and other parts of his body as a result of being struck by the fireworks," said Laurie Burgess with the Sarpy County Attorney's office.

King, whose trial starts Nov. 16, is charged with second-degree assault and using a weapon to commit a felony.

"This suspect was the one who fired the fireworks at the victim's face," Burgess said.

Brown is charged with one count of first-degree assault.

Foss will appear in court next month. That's also when Brown, who is charged with one count of first-degree assault, will be arraigned.
