Middletown will host its fireworks festival on Saturday.

Julia Messier, 8, of Cromwell holds sparklers over the rail beside the Connecticut River Sunday as her father, Paul, stands behind her at Harbor Park in Middletown while waiting for the fireworks display to begin.

Middletown's annual Fireworks Festival, featuring live music and family-friendly activities, has been rescheduled to Sunday due to inclement weather forecasted for Saturday — the original date.

Festivities kick off at 5 p.m. at Harbor Park and the front lawn of Middletown's Municipal Building. Fireworks start around 9:30 p.m.

If you're just sticking to the fireworks, viewing areas can be found at Harbor Park, city hall and the grounds of the Connecticut Valley Hospital.

The following streets will be closed during the festival from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. unless noted otherwise: DeKoven Drive at Washington Street (no southbound traffic between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m.), Court Street (between Melilli Plaza and DeKoven Drive between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m.), Harbor Drive, DeKoven Drive, Dingwall Drive (closed between Metro Square and Dekoven Drive), MLK Way (closed between Metro Square and Dekoven Drive), River Road (closed between Harbor Drive and Walnut Street), Eastern Drive (between Silver Street and River Road  — southbound traffic only.)

Parking can be found on Main Street, the grounds of the Connecticut Valley Hospital, the Jackson Corrugated Lot, the commuter lot on Eastern Drive and municipal lots in the area.
